Tram Gian Pagoda Festival
Time From the 4th to the 6th
day of the first lunar month.
Place: Tien Phuong Commune,
Chuong My District, Hatay Province, Vietnam.
Objects of worship Buddha and
god Nguyen Binh An.
Characteristics: Palanquin
procession of the God, vegetarian meal contest and puppetry show.
Opening festival is the god’s palanquin procession, then altar procession, feast basket procession (include chung cake, giay cake made by the pagoda)... Then going down the mountain and worship in Quan Thanh place in the midst of the field, where according to the legend mark the foot of the god when he returned to his home village to ask for soybean jam and egg-plants. Puppets performance shows in the evening before the God Temple (puppets are symbol of a group Ming solders who stayed in Mai Linh for living, then at the festival they have to present to the God). Vegetarian meal contest is arranged on the 6th day. It involves folk games such as human chess, wrestling, and water puppetry show.
